Mission Hill in Roxbury will host the third WiFi access point in Boston Main Streets districts. The first two hotspots are located in Roslindale and Washington Gateway Main Streets. According to Mission Hill Main Streets director Maggie Cohn, the project benefits small businesses in two ways: they will have free access to the Internet and they become more attractive to customers who are looking for shops that will allow them to use their wireless laptops. A Wentworth Institute of Technology program is assisting the initiative by providing Internet connection and developing locally based content for users. Once the project is operational, the project expects to hold a kickoff “unplugging” event as well as community discussions to gather the opinions of users and what they hope the system will provide in the future.
